Parental Centering Group
New Group Forming for Fall 2010
Parental Centering™ individual and group therapy targets parents of crisis-driven children (children whose lives are in continual chaos due to, say, substance abuse). It teaches the parent new skills to change their reactionary and emotional charged responses into systematic, rational responses. This therapy allows them to stay involved with their child yet remain true to their own core values. It is about teaching parents to take care of themselves first when living with a child in crisis.
They will learn how to make decisions consistent with goals and boundaries set in advance. For example, they will learn to find their center between enmeshment and “love with detachment”, and to create a contract to map out choices when confronted with their child’s behaviors. They will also learn to take an honest look at how their own actions are hurting or helping the child and to stop treating every situation as a crisis that must be solved today.
The group is forming now to begin in early fall, and will be meeting for eight weeks. The cost is $50 per session. Fore information, please contact Lisa Jackson, MFTI (IMF #61404). Mindfulness Therapy
In Mindfulness therapy, you will learn to be grateful for every day by exploring the distinct awareness of what is happening now without bringing a judgment to it, allowing you to open yourself to the possibilities of the moment. Mindfulness allows us to accept each situation for what it is, knowing that each moment is fleeting and cannot be brought back. We will focus on:
- Learning to balance your natural inner conflicts between emotions and reason and to concentrate on one thing at a time without distractions
- Focusing on the importance of compassion within ourselves and others to connect with each person in our lives
- Sharing our successes with other group members and practicing mindfulness techniques between sessions.
Mindfulness concepts can be woven through any issues the client is working on and is offered as a stand alone individual therapy. Group and individual Mindfulness therapy available. Download brochure below:
